the only part of his speech that got close to the truth was his last statement, "if we are going to get anything out of this book, we have to wrestle with it." of course as a Christian you don't wrestle with it until you have submitted to it, so even this falls flat. I hope that one day he will try to follow the New Testament. that will change his whole perspective on why the old ever existed.

MAR the EDGES of your beard. Already following falsely....sigh... -
"O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart" (Prov. 8:5). Lol!

I read this book..twice..because it is sooooo funny! You will literally laugh out loud at some of AJ's comments. I LOVED IT!!

Rituals are not necessary. They can easily be dismissed. Yes, even the birthday one.
-
The funny part is he lived more biblically than the majority of professing Christians living in the world today. Most Christians act like assholes and think they are God's favorite because they attend church regularly.
-
a year of being DUMB, IGNORANT and UNINFORMED?
-
Practice without understanding is a dangerous thing. His conclusions reflect this.

I read this book & thoroughly enjoyed it.He took a gentle, loving & humorous approach to the subject.Predictably, there are people that are so easily offended that they cannot respect the effort put into this undertaking.

even being agnostic most the time in my life, i always become particularly atheistic when playing xcom2 long war

When you read the old testament you CANT compare it to modern day. If a women was having her period and she got it all over a chair it says not to sit in it. Sexual purity was really BIG back in the day. The rules in the old testament were for people of that time for particular reasons that may not make sense to you right now unless you research the context. This experiment is pointless for many reasons. One this guy clearly doesn't actually believe in God, he did this for fun. Two he doesn't know the context of what he is talking about. One question I have for the man speaking in this video is do you actually thank God for creating you in general? The reason you stand up their and speak. The reason you smile, breathe, cry, your memories, morals, character.... Where do you think it came from?

"This is why I speak to them in PARABLES: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand."
This guy is an goof. Leviticus doesn't tell YOU to stone adulterers. You have to read this stuff in a historic context, and as they are, not taking it as though it is telling you do literally do these things. People who think they're smart for not believing in the name of Jesus sure don't display their intellect in how they perceive the words within the bible. -
just wondering, did you thank Jesus for every meal and drink?

I am a huge fan of A.J. Jacobs, a great writer indeed.

one word: hermeneutics.

Great, glad I found this on Pentecost - the origins of the Christian faith. AJ makes sense - get less self-focused. Be thankful - beautiful. Unfolding the great truths of life. Ooooo... Reverence. Not very United Statesian. Sabbath - yes, a truism - take the day off from your worldly concerns, dwell on God.
But here's the thing. God chose us, we do not choose God. When people come to Jesus they weep because of how beautiful He is while we are so impure. We realize then and there we can never achieve perfection thru all those 700+++ laws. He came to fulfill the laws. We are saved when we admit He redeemed us in our unholiness. Our lives changes for the better. All the laws are good for us. Thanks for the share, AJ., a special TED talk. -
If you follow the Bible literally ... ...... will be acting crazy .kkkkk
-
There is nothing in the Bible that transced the human being and its values ........... kill, kill send, send plagues,to judge, punish suffering etc .... there is nothing there that is really like something we could call "divine" ............. the Bible is human thought, written and manipulated by humans ... imposed as truth the soleplate and fire !!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

"If a woman is raped in the city, and not scream loud enough, it must be stoned to death (Deut 22: 23-24).. If in the field, so she lives (Deut 22:25) Finally, if the rapist is caught, he shall pay an amount to the father and marry the raped (Deuteronomy 22: 28-29). ".....................follows this !!!!!!

I find it interesting that he lives a year trying to follow a religion that he is not connected to, in order to ridicule it, instead of trying to live a year in the Jewish tradition, which he does have a strong connection with. Interesting.
