The one thing guaranteed to break a bad habit is to kill yourself. There, problem solved. I saved at least 9 minutes and 24 seconds of your life. You're welcome.

This is a recap of the last part but i added my own words to it. Not perfect but whatever:
The text message example:
Instead of following this process when you get a text while driving:
1. see text message, 2. compulsory text back. 3. feel a little better..
Follow this instead:
1.Notice that there is an urge to text back.
2. Get curious or basically realize the fact that the urge is a symptom of a bad habit pattern.
3. Feel the joy of letting go (don't do what the urge tells you to do, rather let go of it because it's coming from how we have wired our brain in a way that causes instant reward but this instant reward often comes with a bill that shows up later).
4. Repeat the same process the next time the urge appears (whether it's procrastination, over-eating, facebook addiction etc). -
He's mixing concepts, vaguely articulated, and just offering superficial opinion. 'Mindfulness' as he's conceived it is just a conceptual monitoring of one's thoughts and this (somehow) diminishes a bad habit..? "Step into being..?" What is he talking about other stating bullshit fancy cognitive terms which relate to us - still undefined - which allegedly cures habits. Nonsense. We can't introspect or gain substantive insights beyond our consciousness awareness. These TED talks have become pseudo-science and metaphysics. Pure speculation here. Name me the definitive principles he ostensibly offers from which we can derive empirical validity.
