Do you mean I can't use apple tv with my MacBook Pro 2 years old?  Also how about Kindle Fire?  It's working with my Iphone 5s.  Thanks for your response.

Several people have been able to get Airplay using the set up I now have, so obviously, all is "in-range._

I have Apple tv now showing settings=Airplay "on."   When I go to YouTube on my Imac (10.9.4),  I see no icon for Airplay.
Why not?

You can't really play games because there is too much lag.
