Setting up Chromecast without WiFi available requires a phone or tablet that has a Data Connection and another device that is WiFi enabled. Throw these all together with your ChromeCast and you can watch videos where there is no WiFi! Note that your data usage will go THROUGH THE ROOF since it will want to stream at high definition. You have been warned.

lol it's not like I invented this. there's tons of how to videos that show this on YouTube.

it has more to do with the app. the screen mirroring on Chromecast is best I've seen. I'm not new either been doing it this way for almost 2yrs. when you setup your hotspot, you have to have another device. you set up with the 2nd device being a middle man for the app and setup to your hotspot. all 3 have to be on same network during setup. for me, i had 1 phone pushing hotspot, Chromecast initializing, and an 2nd Android phone also connected to the hotspot. once you set it up the first time you will only need to turn on hotspot and Google will find it. If you connect Chromecast to another network you will have to redirect it back to your phone the next time you plug it in. But if you just leave it on 1 hotspot network it will look for that network 1st by default.

Bakbas Device,
Use MHL CABLE, it is better option. -
Can I not do this using just my phone? I want to mirror and tether using my phones hotspot without having to use another device to access cast? Any way?

I followed the instructions of the video, but for whatever reason I get a connection problem error. The odd occurrence is that my phone list the Chromecast device as connected to the hot spot.

you can connect straight from your phone to chromecast with the Chromecast app on your cell. I also have metro pcs and no wifi so I've been doing it for months. one little trick I learned is that you can mirror your phone inside the Chromecast app and watch about half the apps as if you casted thru the tabs. this helps because I have the $60/mo plan w metro and that gives unlimited uncapped 4g. however metro still caps the hotspot bandwidth somewhere between 5-10gbs. not positive of exact amount of gbs because I've heard 5 different answers from metro cust service. all diff, 1 said 5gb another 6 and so on. however if you mirror you screen thru the Chromecast app it doesn't count towards your hotspot bandwidth. be warned it is slowed down compared to hitting the cast tab. You also need to go straight from your phone to the Chromecast hdmi stick. when installing Chromecast to work thru your hotspot you may need to use another device I really can't remember but it's only for the initial setup and once Chromecast recognizes your hotspot no other device is needed. I've got 140gbs of data used this month and only 7gbs of tethering and mobile hotspot data so far and that's cause I still used the cast tab from time to time, but believe me at least 100gbs of that is from mirroring my phone to my tv. If anyone wants lmk and I'll try and make a video to show. unfortunately Netflix can not be mirrored and hulu works about 75% but YouTube works great, crackle, kodi player and many more. sometimes you have to pause and buffer but for someone like me that can't have wifi at my house, you can't beat unlimited high speed data and fairly high speed hotspot mirror for $60/mo. I pretty much have access to any tv station in the world streaming and unlimited speed for torrents if I can't stream something. all for less than what most ppl pay for their cell bill alone. not to mention, cable and wifi. that's it. a tv with a HDMI/ Chromecast/ the android app and the $60a month plan from metro. I plan on trying the roku stick and the fire stick to soon. If anyone is interested I will share my results on them.

AFTER REALISING THAT I DIDNT HAVE A SECOND PHONE, I RATHER HAVE A LAPTOP AND THIS WAS SO MUCH EASIER USING THE LAPTOP! type chomecast/setup (as required on the tv screento setup the chrome cast) into your laptop browser and then download the uutility for computers (not for android or apple- its at the bottom of these two), follow on screen instructions after downloading and executing the chrome setup utility on your laptop. Easy as pie! hope this helps fellow solo colleagues

I only have a iPhone and a TV. No internet in my home. Only on my iPhone. How do I connect to my tv with the chromecast
-
Thanks for this! If this works it should render Comcast service obsolete and probably increase my average monthly data usage of 60GB and set some new records.
Just have to hope VZW doesn't cut discontinue my grandfathered unlimited plan. -
Amazing - exactly what I needed. I was trying to access the Chromecast app on my phone while sharing the internet connection, and I couldn't get it to work. Getting it on my tablet was a genius move so thank you!
