Cynthia Kenyon: Experiments that hint of longer lives
wie Sie tun, machen, Film, Beispiel
http://www.ted.com What controls aging? Biochemist Cynthia Kenyon has found a simple genetic mutation that can double the lifespan of a simple worm, C. Elegans. The lessons from that discovery, and others, are pointing to how we might one day significantly extend youthful human life. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

I studying this at Princeton this summer!!! So excited :) foxo/ daf16 rocks!!!
-
Let's cut to the chase: What foods, vitamins, supplements, chemicals, or drugs can I take to ratchet up the functioning of my FOXO3a genes?

i am 65 eh BITCHES!!

Cynthia Kenyon is now working for Google's Calico longevity start-up, along with other researchers at the very top of this field. Even if it takes 20 years to produce something truly revolutionary, it means that when I'm 55 I might find myself regaining all the years between now and then, which is a stunning thought.

Instead of taking pills to live longer, how about we just stop eating carbs (which spike the insulin the most). Oh wait, reducing carbs intake has already shown to improve all heart disease risk factors. Carbs, especially grains, are the cause of these western diseases.

because the environmental consequences resulting from 7 billion people isn't enough
-
The repercussions on an organisms metabolism and growth are serious concerns. Sure damaging the DAF-2 gene extends lifespan but it's a double edged sword on the organism's overall health.
-
What are you on about?
-
no and yes, avoid only sugar and starches, fat and protein will not raise insulin at all. Cynthia eats paleo with cheese. I have asked her.
-
effect and infect are not the same
-
the 7 billion today eat the same calories as 9 billion would have eaten in the 1950s so you are dead wrong about the food issue. Oil? oil is dirty no matter how many humans use it.
-
im a male, at age 50 I made a son.
-
I don't plan on living past 60 -- live fast die young!
-
how many people of 50+ have children? very very few.
-
a population crisis might not be the right term, we have a resource crisis, there is not enough food, oil ect.. to go round with 7billion people on earth, but with advances in science this could not be a problem, the 7billion of us on earth could live in just the state of texas, population isnt the problem.
-
theres already warnings of population crisis' on the rise, humans will suffocate earth if we alter our lifespans
