Dennis Hong: Making a car for blind drivers
wie Sie tun, machen, Film, Beispiel
http://www.ted.com Using robotics, laser rangefinders, GPS and smart feedback tools, Dennis Hong is building a car for drivers who are blind. It's not a "self-driving" car, he's careful to note, but a car in which a non-sighted driver can determine speed, proximity and route -- and drive independently. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

People who do not beleive in this hope for the blind and the potential freedom it could give them, whether driven by a blind person or self propelling are religious heritics, just like those who want to celebrate Christmas on December 25'th of each year, in conjunction with the pagan festival. If Christmas is really about the birth of Christ, than please, celebrate it on the day that Christ was actually born. Look it up in the Bible.
And to those who beleive that the blind can do nothing are societal heritics. :) Smiles -
00:58 ... please guys the reason why they tried to make a veichal that allows the driver to decide stuff and NOT DRIVE AUTOMATICALLY please dont be so stupid

i see some people who apperantly didnt watch the video saying that "google already made a car that can drive by itself so go help with that" ... really...? this vid was uploaded in 2011 and in the start of the video he says that they already had the car that can drive by itself by saying the location but had to start from scrap since the organization that wanted the cars wanted cars that can allow blind drivers to drive (by providing information to them) not drive automatically (using tech programs)... please watch the video with more attention before u write someting cuz it sounds extremely stupid ...

I'm starting to get how it's all about helping blind people... great way to sell stuff... if you're too concerned with any other negative ramifications then you're basically a pariah lol... who Doesn't care about the blind!

I think the 1st idea was better. Put them in a self-driving car, and be done with it.

not gonna lie, the only reason i clicked this video was to see if there was a top comment where someone made a joke about asian drivers

lets hope you don't end up blind, because no-one will be giving you the technology to help you with that attitude!
-
Apparently the folks who came up with braille on the drive through ATMs were years ahead of their time.
-
awesome, i don't know when this car will be used in the future, but it probably changes life of blind people.
-
What intrigued me the most was the fact that with the development of this technology, it can be used as a model to develop other usable items for the non-sighted individuals.
