Pedable by NCH Software to control Windows Media Player using your foot pedal. Thank you, Linda F. for telling me about Pedable. My apologies for the not so great audio. REWIND may not work for audio files, but will for video files. ALSO TRY QuickTime with Pedable as an alternative. I didn't find Pedable helpful for transcription purposes because of the conflict of hot keys with Microsoft Word, Notepad, and Markup. HOWEVER, Pedable might be very useful for other things like playing an instrument, learning to knit, crochet, etc. where you need your hands free. http://Pham Transcription Services.com tina@PhamTranscriptionServices.com TRANSCRIPT: Hello, my name is Tina. I am making this video because I have heard some people come across the issue where they would like to use their foot pedal to control Windows Media Player without downloading a special program such as ExpressScribe. The program that I heard about is called Pedable, and it's from NCH Software. So if you go to their website, they do have a free version. Now be careful when you're downloading that all the other programs that you can download is unchecked so that you don't get extra programs that you weren't looking to have. When you download the program, it looks like this, and you'll end up needing to fill in these different actions that match the hot keys for the Windows Media Player. So when you go into options, you're going to want to set up your foot pedal, and I've already done that. The number of pedals means how may buttons you have. I have rewind, play, and fast-forward. So you'll go through the foot pedal setup and click "Okay". Then you're going to want to click on the "Wizard". Choose your pedal, so the left pedal, and you're going to set it to Ctrl+Shift+B. That allows you to rewind, so when you hit your left button, it'll rewind. And that's how you're going to do it on your keyboard. You're going to have to hit the "Ctrl" and the "Shift" and the "B". And that's how you'll get these all set up like this. Ctrl+Shift+B is the hot key for rewinding. Ctrl+P is the Hot Key for play. Ctrl+Shift+F is the hot key for fast-forward. Ctrl+S for stop. Ctrl+Shift+N for normal. Ctrl+Shift+G goes fast, at a faster speed. This means if I hit the left side of my pedal, that's what it's going to do: rewind. If I hit the center, it's going to play. If I hit the right side of my pedal, it's going to fast-forward. Now when it says "Shift + Left" that means you're going to have to hit your Shift key on your keyboard and tap the left side of your pedal at the same time, the same with "Shift + Center" and "Shift + Right". Now I'll actually go ahead and play with this a little bit. I'll depress the left, and you'll see that the video is going to rewind, and you saw that over here. If I press the center, it's going to play. And then when I hit center again, it'll stop it. When I hit the right side of my foot pedal, it's going to fast-forward, as you see here it's fast-forwarding. And then you can also use your Shift keys. So this works well if you are -- if you're playing a video that has to do with maybe music, and your hands are busy with an instrument, and you want to use the foot pedal to control the video, or if you just don't want to use a video or an audio player, then you can use Pedable to play your Windows Media videos. I find that there is a little big of lag when you're playing and fast-forwarding and reversing, but you can play with it and see if it works for you. You can also set this up to be the same hot keys as YouTube videos, and I have not done that yet. I haven't really played with it much. But again, this Pedable is an option for running not just Windows Media Player, but possibly other video formats as well, like I said such as YouTube. Another note I wanted to make is about Pedable. If you go into "Options" this is clicked, "Run on startup", and that means that any time you startup your system, Pedable is going to be running, and so you want to make sure you uncheck that. I also want to make note that using Pedable with Windows Media Player is great, but then when you want to, as a transcriptionist, type into something such as Word or even Notepad or Markup, there is an issue with the hot keys. For instance, to play with the Pedable, you hit the center button on your pedal, which is Ctrl+P. Now that will play for Windows Media Player, but, as you can see here, it also brings up the Print function for my Word, meaning I can't use it at the same time I have Word open or Notepad or Markup. So I would have to actually be typing on a totally different system in order for it to work as a transcriptionist. Now if you have a different solution for this, I'd love to hear it. Please add it to the notes (comments) below. If you find Pedable useful for other things besides transcription, go ahead and share those in the notes (comments) below as well. And thank you very much for watching.
