When I set a lens on a table I prefer to set it front down. Sometimes when I have set them down on their side the lens cap pops off. That won't happen with the lens on top of it. Also the if the lens is face down it is a less likely to roll off the table.
So what is the objection to setting a lens face down? -
Did not work on my Canon 60D. Since I was in nightclub photography this could have caused the dead pixels. They are red dots, some bigger some smaller. Not visible in usual image but after zooming a lot you start seeing them.

It worked on my 5D Mark III, totally eliminated 3 hot pixels. Woo-hoo! Thank you!

Worked with my Canon 5Dsr. Thanks a lot!

Thank you! It worked for me on a Canon T5i.

Great advice but be careful dust from inside your mirror assembly doesn't fly around and land on your sensor. Trust me that stuff is worse and impossible to get off near enough.

Awesome, thank you very much!

does not work for me but thanks

Somewhat worked, lower ISO numbers play a factor and sensor temp. I just shot a 12 min clip at wall at 6400 ISO over that time you can see the 7 hot pixels become hotter as sensor becomes hotter over 12 min. My suggestion is maybe to keep camera cool if you need to shoot at ISO #'s that are higher and limit the camera on time to as short as possible and then turn off again to cool senor back down.
