jajaja I was actually suspecting this and yes!
This error makes other things to work bad.
This happens because when you first open the controller, you don't notice the clip that secures that ribbon and if you force it, it disconnects from the other side.

My pad seems to work when I slide it however when I hold or press it nothing happens I tried it to get up the interaction menu on GTA 5 also on messages to a friend fiddled with the cable and it's the same problem can anyone let me know what might be wrong?

If you mess up any of these ribbon cables, you can buy new ones online, save you the price of a new controller.

Your video saved my controller. I couldn't figure out how to reattach the touch pad. I spent like an hour trying to i was tempted to just buy a new controller

first off all: thanks man - I have fixed multiple PS3 controllers before and was repairing my PS4 controller now (wearing thumb sticks) and had apparently run into this problem. I didn't know about the touch pad connector ribbon - Thanks!

I had a few different diagnostics and extra work to do to get this fixed this tho, I'll share my experience for other people who possibly run into this.

In my case, my controller wouldn't charge at all when the touch pad was connected. If I disconnected the touch pad cable, I could charge it, use it again,.. So that's the first difference. It might seem that your controller doesn't charge any more, but actually it is the touch pad who is causing this because of a BADLY connected cable.

I also ran into an additional problem when trying to connect the connector on the touch pad itself. My touch pad connector was ALWAYS partially coming out. Even from the slightest move. So after reconnecting it the first time and putting my controller back together, the problem still persisted. Teared it down again, saw that the connector had come loose again, reconnected the connector on the touch pad, plugged everything in, ALL working. But after again putting my controller back together, the slightest bump to the touch pad cable disconnected it again... SO, what I ended up doing was putting a LITTLE bit of SUPERGLUE on the blue part of the cable (the firm bit to push it into place) and let it make connection with the closing clip of the connector on the touch pad so it stayed in place much more firmly. I should put an obvious WARNING here: don't put any superglue on any of the electrical parts - You might end up frying you controller. To complete the story, assembled the entire controller back together and everything worked! Yay!
