If you listen to how you feel when it comes to what you want, you will not get it, because you don't feel like it, and you never will.

So don't listen to your feelings. Listen to the 5 second rule. -

"Vision without action is a dream.
Action without vision is a nightmare."
(Japanese Proverb)
"Action is the last refuge of those who cannot dream."
(Oscar Wilde)
Not everyone wants to do more, nor should they. Granted, men of action run the world. They determine the rules for the rest of us. But is that how it should be? Are they really the true grown-ups, parenting themselves, as this woman suggests? What if some of us have already harmonized the ends with the means, and are actually fulfilled by dreaming and conversing?
Should we allow this self-righteous "supermom" to talk to us like we are her children? (Nevermind that Christ said we ought to become as little children.) Perhaps we are introverts, not because we are hesitant to act, but, because we ACTually enjoy thinking deep thoughts and practicing true intimacy with others. Maybe we don't want or need large crowds to stand and applaud, in order to feel fulfilled.
If we are conflicted, maybe, just maybe, it is not because we fail to actualize our destinies, but, merely because we live in an extroverted culture; one which is outwardly focused and materialistic. Ultimately, a culture which rewards what may, in fact, be truly sick or childish behavior, while it disregards the more retiring, inward-looking wisdom of every great mystic and spiritual teacher whom the world has ever known. Could it be, that we are conflicted, primarily, because we have unwittingly internalized the expectations and values (or anti-values, really; since they derive from a failure to appreciate the here and now) of a spiritually bankrupt culture?
Even those of us who have entirely rejected these materialistic values, nonetheless, remain subject, to a large extent, to the culture's unreasonable demands and assumptions. How are we to find peace in a culture which devalues freedom, relaxation, and reflection in favor of endless competition, production, distribution, consumption, and waste? Do we really want to generate (ust for the sake of generating) an increasing diversity of junk, like this TED talk here; which, I suspect, degrades the self-esteem of far, far more people than it ever motivates?
The solution we so often hear, basically, amounts to, "If you can't beat them, join them,". But these things are destroying the world! Must we agree with this proud woman, who thinks you aren't doing enough of them? Is it true: You need a larger carbon footprint. You need to chop down a forest to print up your #1 Bestsellers. You need to invent a new product, a new desire. Be a "job creator", putting more people to work doing useless and harmful activities.
After all, how else are you going to afford all those costly objects which people around the world are already making, making, making; products which you don't need, nor want, nor even know exist, -- and which will only distract you from loved ones, making you dependent on themselves instead and, finally, addicted to endless consumption? How else are we going to completely trash the planet before handing it off to our grandchildren?
This woman thinks the problem is a refusal to obey our impulses. I say, just let her try to sit still for ten minutes. She'll go mad, not because she is denying a natural hierarchy of needs, as she suggests, but, because she is profoundly addicted to stressful activity; so much so that, within the space of a minute, she will begin to manifest typical symptoms of withdrawal. "Your industriousness is a fleeing from self. You have not the capacity for idleness." (Friedrich Nietzsche)
This is what the great spiritual teachers have taught, from the beginning. In order to reach our natural state of true, sober awareness, we must learn to be still, -- and not to chase our dreams farther and farther into the fallen world of men.
"Be still, and know that I am God," (Psalm 46:10) -
