Loop | Overcoming creative blocks
wie Sie tun, machen, Film, Beispiel

In this discussion Matthew Herbert, Phoebe Kiddo, Young Guru and James Holden uncover the causes of (and solutions to) creative blocks. Hear from these artists how they get stuck, how they get unstuck again, and how they ultimately manage to get music made. Discussion moderated by Dennis DeSantis, author of Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers. At Loop 2015 we dedicated two discussions to the topic of creative blocks. I think creators are more concerned with originality then listeners. As a listener, I listen to music that suits my moods. I don't care about the greats in that genre. I care that the evolution of that genre eventually lead to this paticular artist's song that I'm listening too. But I'm also a creator and find that my beliefs and values as a listener and a creator contradict eachother hence my creative block. I'm still blocked after watching this...ughhh

i slept in my clothes all day yesterday and have some chaffing, on the night shift atm, will have to rub them down with a warm soapy sponge and apply some lanacane :S

i'd love to sit and drink fine single malt whisky to six or so hours of this stuff :)

interesting discussion, but not a lot of useful information. apathetic artists (besides guru) borishley talking about philosophy & presets..
-
that subtle tension between holden and guru

I like how Dennis plugged his own book in such a passive and subtle way at the beginning haha

I like when they talked about being naive when creating and how that could be something that works. Definitely a lot of great information here.

I'm not done with the video, but I wish Kiddo spoke more

Happy accidents are the magic that keeps creativity happening for me and i think a lot of people . Listening to ideas coming into your mind and knowing how to implement them is very important and having to many options like loads of synths etc can block creativity. Getting ideas down quickly and fine tuning later for me is the way forward. You don't need an idea first to get music going but you do need to be feeling positive about it.

i suck at setting synths from scratch but i know the basic rules so i go throu presets to find a cool sound then i fiddle sometimes to the point its not reconisible. There r alot of pro who rude to peeps who use presets which i think is a shame. Using presets in my latest song has been very emotional cos its the best thing ive produced so far. And my early work is prett much scrappes cos i tried to do sound design from scratch and i didnt know what the hell i was doing and was time consuming and pulls you down. Designing from scratch takes time and so f it use presets. But fiddke and change it its the best way to learn each filter and what they do

Young Guru opinion: Completely useless.
