Mercedes W204 W212 C E Class Repair Scolling Knob COMAND Console Control Wheel Command

http://www.comand-knob-repair.com/ You can purchase a replacement alloy shaft from this shop How I repaired the internal shaft in the Comand Control Knob in your W204 C Class. Video on how to remove: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU5NB7jpqOM Music: http://www.purple-planet.com The internal shaft breaks about 4 years after the build date. We consumers should not have to put up with this in a supposedly high quality vehicle costing over $AUD100,000. It's not what I expected from a Mercedes Benz. A new Comand Control costs about $AUD850 plus a few hundred dollars to install. All the dealer would do is offer me a "special" price whatever that means ... it was still going to be over $1000 plus the hassle of getting the car to and from the dealers. I'd prefer to keep my $1000. You don't built wealth by handing over thousands of dollars to others to fix things you can easily do yourself.

Thank you for both videos Scott. Our Mercedes C220 from 2008 was bought here in Sweden and the problem was exactly as you showed us in the video. I appreciate your time and effort for making this video.

Thanks a lot for the repair manual!
Note: Torx screw in the steeing wheel shuld be a Trox Nr. 8 not 10, i think. -

Hi scott, i have the same problem and i want fix this. I have a questions: why you cut the cable? it is very necessary? how can i connect the cable after cut? thank you !
-
Great video. I purchased a new aluminum stem and it works well. A few hints 1) the cable is a real pain. I did not want to cut it and ended up pulling it towards the control unit and taking the control unit in the car (which worked well - just be careful to not loose any parts 2) take a picture of the pieces in the stem/joystick, they need to be aligned in a certain way when you reassemble.

Not knowing the language did everything according to your instructions. And it worked. Thank you very much. With greetings from Russia!

Thanks a lot Scott! I should have read the comments from others below on how to unclip the wire by removing the carpet, but your instructions were so fantastic that I was able to complete all steps with the module still plugged in. Really appreciate you putting the time into this video. Saved me $350! Drinks on me if you are ever here in Florida! Cheers!

Thanks Scott
I completely stripped the unit down at least 8 times and re-assembled it. Still pulking wheel downward works perfectly but pushing upward for upper menu options is not existant. Board is cleaned. Cant really see why as all 4 legs are aligned correctly, not much can be out out of whack. No idea why. Tbe only issue previously was the wheel wasnt moving the cursor as shaft was broken but now mysteriously pushing upward is a non event.
Nothing on youtube or even the internet. Damn hope someone can help ! -
Hi Scott. l stripped unit down, ordered new aluminium shaft replaced and put everything back together but now it almost works... it wont work when l push wheel up. or push left/right. pushing downward works but not left/right or upwards. Any suggestion ?

Great stuff Scott :-) I have the facelift model so taking off scroll wheel a little different but other than that fantastic. I also watched the TM Parts video and followed their advice for unhooking the ribbon. Thanks for taking the time

Hi Scott, I've gotten as far as getting the knob off and the four screws at the bottom, but I can't for the life of me take the box apart as easily as in your video.
When I look at the bottom I can see something like 6 screws more, recessed in a deep hole - do they need to be loosened also or are they holding something else together? -
Here you can buy a aluminium stick :http://www.ebay.de/itm/232105017166?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

This is superb, just used this to fix my 2010 C180 along with the aluminium shaft from the guys in Germany. Most satisfying to do this myself and not having to pay the ridiculous dealer prices. Thanks for taking the trouble to make this vid.

Hi Scott,
I hope you can help me with the issue I am having with my unit. Everything works well following your steps, except I lost the "select" (central click) ability. And to fix it, I need to understand where this ability comes from. As the wheel is fixed onto the main axis, which is rigid (on the vertical axis), I cannot understand how the wheel can get up and down. What exactly is moving ? Is it the main axis, that moves from below the main PCB ? Or is it the wheel itself ? I ask because mine broke and thus was unmounted, it may have been poorly reassembled.
Hope my question is clear, otherwise do not hesitate to ask me more details.
Thanks a lot, I hope you can save me on this !
