Recently noticed a lot of complains online about the transcoding quality of this unit. I am about to pull the trigger for a 32TB pr4100 for around $1550. really don't want to be disappointed for spending this amount of money. Any thoughts on recent updates and behavior of this unit running Plex? Thx

will i be able to buy this with 8tb driver and then expand with 1, 2 and then 3 disks without loosing data and have to start over everytime i put in a new hdd?

I don't use Plex on my MyCloud EX4100 series because it no longer goes to sleep when Plex is activated but I've heard that it's still supposed to go to sleep. For instance, if I simply turn OFF the Plex App, the device then resumes it's more power minded behavior of sleeping when not in use. I can then turn ON the Plex app when I want to use Plex (it saves the configuration and database when you deactivate the app so it's not completely inconvenient but it's not exactly an elegant solution to the issue. Byte My Bits- could you give me some direction on how to rectify this? Regards.

Jason, thank you for sharing your Plex knowledge. This video on the PR4100 has got me heading to pick up one.
I have migrated from TiVo, to WMC, to NextPVR and presently I am a PlexPass user, thanks to you. Since moving to WMC I have used MCEBuddy to remove commercials and converting my video from a ts file to and MP4 which also decreases my file size. Is there a better solution, I am thinking about having Plex transcode the video as it is coming from the Silicon Dust or have it Optimize them afterwords, any thought. Is there an alternative way to remove the commercials? -
WD drives aren't great period, generally too slow. Hopefully there reverse takeover of HGST (ie the former HGST staff are basically now running the important jobs in WD) will improve the WD drives aswell as the continued HGST drives.

I was wondering if you could do a video about accessing the root directory on the PR4100 so we can add .bin files to the Plex Directory. Also maybe you could do something with pushing files directly into the system through the USB connection instead of having to do it through WiFi.

your channel + videos kept me going through me first time having a struggle with Plex / windows software issues. ... I made it! my server is functioning 100% :) during my emotional struggle with my PC you have prepared me to be a knowledgable Plex user. so many forums lead to dead ends! but through your teaching I used logic to decipher the real issue. it was just in time cuz I was SO close to reinstalling windows :P

Is there anyway you are able to test the power usage? Like idle usage, transcode usage, direct play usage? I just want to get an idea of how much i would be paying in energy cost for this unit.

Don't ever make your library available outside your home network, I did and some hacker kept trying to hack me with DoS attacks, turning it off fixed it sort of.
