The story of Tulare Lake is a fascinating one too. A little over 100 years ago, if you were to see a map of California, you'd see a lake right smack dab in the center of California- a lake that was almost as big as the great salt lake. Farmers and engineers re-routed the water to these vast networks of canals and started damming the rivers from the sierra nevada mountains.

When I saw those run down buildings it reminded me of an episode of the Simpsons - The Wife Aquatic - where the family go back to Marge's childhood seaside town - Barnacle Bay. It has become a ghost town due to over-fishing. The sentiments in this episode are the same as in this video. It is sad when a lack of foresight and care leads to desolation, let us hope that it does not happen on a large enough scale to affect the whole earth.
