The Surface 3 (and Pro 3) Pen - How it works and a look at what is inside

This video is a technical look at the Surface (Pro) 3 pen up really close (in macro). It compares the pen to previous model N-Trig pens like the Motion CL900 and Fujitsu Q702 pens. We then break down the CL900 pen to show you what is inside. We explain the functions of the pen including the purple Bluetooth Button on the end. At the end of the video we unbox one of the new generation Surface 3 coloured pens (colored ;-) for those in the USA) showing that the pen loop now comes in the pen box.

Hi!
I have a question:
if I use the surface pen in another screen (not a surface device, I mean, an HP convertible laptop) it works well? I need to find some stylus to use it in StaffPad app (to write music).
Thanks for the info!
Cheers! -
Thanks! That helped me fix my surface pro pen.

Wacom has been and still is the marked leader for a good reason. If the Ntrig pen technology is so much better, then why am I unable to slowly drag a smooth diagonal line on the Surface (Pro) 3? It ends up all wobbly and messed up, only the horizontal en vertical lines are good, or you have to swipe the pen fast over the screen. Never had this problem with Wacom

I'm starting to think I don't have a surface pro 3... I mean, i know i bought it on amazon but my surface pro has a very big difference of what i see on surface pro 3 videos, for example, the 'eraser' of my pen is not purple, and when i press the home button, it is layed out differently; for me it pops up from the bottom left corner, and for other people it's a full on screen with gadgets and apps, i looked at the other surface pro's and none of them seemed similar to my computer. If you know what type of surface pro i have, please tell me :)

If you need a AAAA Battery in a pinch you can just get a standard 9V and open it to find 6 AAAA batteries...

Hey Brett, thanks for the video. I have a couple of questions:
1) There doesn't seem to be any noticeable lag while inking in the video. Does pen work just as well with the Surface 3?
2) Is the pen accurate enough for thin, small writing, like you would write in a ruled notebook?
Thanks! -
Can you change the eraser button to open a different program? Also can you use the eraser button to erase things when it's rubbed against the screen in onenote? That would be cool.

Hello! Does this pen work with the Surface Pro (the original)?
-
do you think it's quiet enough that you can use it during lectures, without bothering the person sitting next to you? And do you know if the surface 4 pen is quieter?

Hello oztabletpc, I appreciate your videos, they've made me finally decide to buy the Surface. My only question I have that I haven't heard anyone say anything about is while writing with the pen, if the side of your hand touches the screen will the screen respond? or do you just have to write carefully.

Will this work with a 2 in 1 hp laptop?
-
Really helpful video, cheers!

Anybody else a 'left hander'? I find my hand always hits the 'Start button' so makes the pen pretty difficult to use as the start menu pops up or the apps move about

Hello, does the surface pen work with any other application other than One note?

How do you like the Samsung S pen for their Galaxy Note devices?
