For 40 tasar bombs that is a small explosion

My comment about 58 MT explosion
You should distinguish a H-bomb that was exploded (tested), and H-bomb that was only built but didn't explode. The first one is a reality, the second one is a possibility only.
1961, October 30, USSR, Novaya Zemlya military test area. The biggest H-bomb ever built, 50 MT by calculations and by its design, 57-58 MT after measurements - was exploded in the air, 4000 m above ground (Novaya Zemlya rocky island). Initial full power (yield) by its initial design (project) - was 100 MT.
But no suitable location was found in USSR to test such huge bomb 100 MT, because too huge shock wave, too large burnt out area, and because too huge radiation contamination by surface area. And because main reason probably - the aircraft (carrier) would not fly away from the blast to the safe distance (due to short insufficient time of bomb's descending under parachute), and the bomber would be destroyed by blast, with a crew.
Due to this the yield of Tsar-bomba was reduced twice, by design change, to 50 MT. To do this reduction, U-238 shell (third stage of explosion, about 2 500-2800 kg of U-238) was deleted, a lead (metal) was used instead Uranium-238 in the shell. Due to a lead instead U-238 inside shell, pollution by radiation was reduced dramatically, but a yield was divided by two also
The bomb have many nicknames and official designations, most known nicknames are Tsar-bomba, and Kuzkina Mat' (Kuzma's mother).
Full weight of Kuzkina Mat' was about 25-27 metric tons, including 800 kg parachute with full surface area 1 600 m2.
The crew of Tu-95 (bomb carrier) - 11 men - had been gathered from volunteers only. The mission on this test flight (to explode Kuzkina Mat') was ordered to the crew 3 days before blast.
The particular bomber Tu-95 was been prepared carefully to carry out such dangerous mission - a flight in the vicinity of monstrous thermonuclear explosion. All absolutely outer surfaces of the bomber was painted by special white composition, to reflect a light as much as possible. After this painting, all members of crew were polishing manually all outer surfaces of their vehicle, during some days, to achieve a light's reflection as much as possible like true mirror. That was a strong instruction-recommendation by scientists and engineers.
The fuselage of the aircraft has been strengthened to carry heavy bomb, because too large bomb (8 m long) didn't pass through bomb bays, so a special cut in fuselage's shell had to be made.
The bomb was moving down to the Earth during 188 seconds, from 10 500 meters (a bomb's dropping out of aircraft) to 4 200 meters (bomb explosion) above sea level. (10500 m - 4200 m = 6300 m; 6300 m / 188 sec = 33.51 m/sec - this is average velocity of bomb descent under parachute, as estimation.)
The bomber Tu-95 had flown away from zero-point (explosion point) almost 40 km, during this 188 seconds (40 km / 188 sec = 212.76 meters/sec = 766 km/hour - this is velocity of Tu-95 as estimation).
The very first air shock wave from awful explosion had hit the bomber 45 km away, instead 60 km in accordance with preliminary calculations.
(Some calculations.
45 km - 40 km = 5 km; 5 km / 212.76 m/sec = 23.5 sec; 45 km / 23.5 sec = 1.91 km/sec - this is average velocity of first air shock wave as the very first estimation. If you consider the same velocity of Tu-95 before and after blast, i.e. if you neglect the failure of all 4 engines and the reduction of the Tu-95 speed.
If all 4 engines had stopped at 40 km away the blast, the velocity of Tu-95 had decreased from 766 km/h, the flight time of Tu-95 along 5 km (from 40 km to 45 km) had increased, the propagation time of shock wave from blast point to 45 km had increased also, the average velocity of shock wave propagation (0 km - 45 km) had decreased down from 1.91 km/sec also.)
When explosion had started, enormous intolerable light from fire ball was continuing about 25-30 seconds, further less bright light was continuing up to 65-70 seconds since explosion's start.
There were 4 air shock waves at all which had hit aircraft, including 3 waves that had been reflected from local surfaces.
Huge air shock wave was visible clear for the man eyes at long distance, as crew member Bolotov is saying. He was a rear shooter in Tu-95 crew. Bolotov was sitting at the very end (rear) of the bomber, and reported immediately to his commander about visible approaching shock wave.
Bolotov could observe from his seat backwards only after extremely bright light of explosion fireball had finished, of course. Before and during this terrible nuclear light, he covered by white screens-shutters (moved they down i.e. closed) all windows around his seat on the bomber, and he put special black glasses on eyes, as he is describing in the video, mentioned below.
After explosion and strikes on the bomber by all 4 air shock waves (distance 45 km away blast's center), all 4 engines had stopped working, and some equipment and devices had ceased to work too. (More likely that engines failure might be happened earlier, before enormous shakes by shock waves, namely during extreme powerful electromagnetic disturbance-impulse from nuclear fire ball.) The aircraft began descent down, but remained controllable.
The crew could be able to start 3 of 4 engines in time. The plane had descended from 10 500 m to 7000 m when the first engine of Tu-95 began to work again. The second engine had been started at 5000 m altitude. Further the third engine was started.
On 3 engines (instead 4 engines normally) Tu-95 arrived back successfully to the initial military air port and landed here.
After landing, the aircraft was investigated, and it was found that electrical wires of the plane were damaged. Wires had been carbonized - as it said in an article, i.e. wires means an insulator of wires. Obviously due to huge electromagnetic impulse of thermonuclear explosion.
See for example about Tsar-bomba (an article in Russian)
http://taba.vpk-media.ru/articles/9292
In this test place were exploded other USSR H-bombs, less then Kuzkina Mat' in yield - 21 MT, 19 MT, and less. So second and third places had won this Soviet devices also.
The fourth place in this scary records belongs to 15 MT of explosion of USA "Mike" H-bomb.
Total yield of all Soviet nuclear blasts was about 1.5 times bigger than total yield of all USA nuclear blasts, but the total number of USSR nuke explosion is less the the same of USA.

watch?v=KkqtnCQhbA0 (in Russian, now deleted unfortunately, but I downloaded it on PC before) - It is an interesting documentary film (a chronicle) about the test (explosion) of Kuzkina Mat'. Vasiliy Bolotov is telling in a chronicle how it was really. Bolotov is the last living member today of that bomber's crew, he is the youngest man among them.
Brief content of a chronicle and an article are above. -
